Description
The Cherry Tree Inn and No. 2 Debenham are two dwellings, one of which is a public house. The building largely dates to the early 17th century, with a substantial 18th-century enlargement creating a long north-facing range, and 19th-century additions to the south. It is timber-framed and plastered with a coved eaves cornice. The roof is tiled, hipped to the west, and has a projecting gable to the east with moulded verges.
The north side of the building is divided into No. 2 at the west end and the public house. No. 2 has mainly 6-pane sash windows, including a 4-pane tripartite sash window on the lower right. The 18th-century doorway features a convex frieze and a bold cornice, and has a 2-panel door. Above the doorway is an internal stack with a moulded base. The public house has irregular window placement. A 2-storey canted bay has old casement windows to the upper floor, and an 18th-century doorway matching that of No. 2. A projecting, one-storey addition has a moulded cornice; the centre curves forward and it features a tripartite sash window. To the right is a doorway with a 6-panel door (the upper four panels glazed) and overlight with a lantern case; a matching doorway to the left has been removed, retaining only the overlight. One first-floor sash window has been removed, along with two others. A flat-roofed dormer is present. The east side incorporates two 6-pane sash windows on the ground floor, and an 18th-century 3-light casement above. A colourwashed brick lean-to has a Vitruvian scroll bargeboard, a 6-pane sash window, and a later 19th-century doorway with a pilastered architrave and cornice. The interior was not inspected, and most of the original structure is said to be concealed.
