Description

OZLEWORTH ASHCROFT ROAD ST 79 SE (south side) 5/140 Dovecote to north west of Ashcroft House GV II

Dovecote and flanking small wings. Probably early/mid C19, possibly re-using decorative stonework from earlier building. Coursed rubble stone with stone slate roof swept and pitched in centre and raking up from back to front on each side. Single range with 2-storey central section slightly projecting and single- storey wings. Apex of central gable has 5 rows of perch holes in triangular pattern, below are small triangular headed vents all round, and one large centre front below string course. Central pointed archway with probably original shaped plank door with vertical battening in Y-shape. Rectangular recesses on each side with moulded stone sills and small glazed pointed arch single light at base with stone lintel above masked by ashlar infill to front and with pointed relieving arch above. Flanking are large segmental arched recesses, each with 2 high single ogee-head plain glazed lights with central blocked slit vent with surround in shape of cross.
