Description

Avening Park is a large detached country house built in the late 17th century, with significant alterations made in the 18th century and further enlargement on the east side in the early 19th century, which gave it a Classical symmetry. The house is constructed of coursed and dressed rubble stone with quoins and features a hipped Cotswold stone slate roof with parapets on all four sides, along with scattered stone stacks.

The building has a large square range, consisting of two storeys and an attic. The east front has seven windows, which are plate glass sashes with raised hood moulds and angled chamfers to the lintels, forming shallow triangles from horizontal. A Doric porch with four columns on bases, a cornice, and a blocking course is present. The central door is half-glazed and set within a decorative surround featuring an X pattern, flanked by pilasters and two smaller plate glass sashes. The remaining ground floor windows mirror those on the first floor but do not have hood moulds. There are two former windows on the east, south, and west sides.

The west front features a large gable on the right with a small oval panel, two two-light stone mullion windows on the first floor, and one six-light window on the ground floor, along with two blocked windows to the left. Decorative rainwater heads in lead are also present. The interior has not been inspected.
