Description
This is a pair of gatepiers with a gate and an adjoining coped wall located at the south-west corner of the Barnsley Park estate. They date from the mid to late 19th century. The gatepiers are made of ashlar stone, square in shape, and stand on bases. They feature elaborately moulded cornices and pyramidal caps with carved corners, reaching a total height of about 2.5 to 3 meters. Between the gatepiers is a single large wooden gate that has decorative turned woodwork. The wall on each side is coursed and dressed, with a curved coped design that slopes down to about 1 meter in height before curving forward for approximately 7 meters, then rising again to connect with plain ashlar piers that also have pyramidal caps. These are attached to a rubble perimeter wall surrounding the estate.
