Description

The Old Rectory is a large detached house built around 1830, with later additions from the 19th century. It features coursed and squared limestone, an ashlar front facade, and a stone-slate roof. The house has ashlar chimney stacks with unmoulded strings and caps. The main part of the building is three storeys high, with a central staircase hall and one room on the side. At the west end, there is a two-storey wing with an attic, and two parallel two-storey wings at the back, both from the 19th century.

The front of the house has five windows, all of which are sash windows, with nine panes in the top floor. There is plain banding between the windows on each floor level. The central doorway features a partly glazed porch added in the 20th century, with a weather-boarded gable and an altered front door that is also partially glazed. There are ridge chimneys at each gable end, along with an additional chimney towards the front at the lower gable end.

The west wing has a single window on each floor, all small-paned casements set in segmental arches. The attic window in the gable is smaller and has a slit vent above it. There is a projecting gable chimney stack at the rear end of the wing. The service wings have scattered fenestration, with timber casements and stone flat arches above. The front windows still have their shutters, and there is one Regency fireplace in the principal room to the left of the front doorway.
