Description
The Old House is a detached house, originally a row of two houses, dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of random rubble limestone with dressed windows, and features a random rubble chimney stack with a moulded cap, and an ashlar chimney stack. The upper portion of the house has a stone-slate roof, while the lower portion has a plain tile roof.
The upper house is two storeys with an attic, while the lower house is single-storey with an attic and a wing extending to the west. The south-facing front has a single window on each level of the upper house, with an off-centre doorway and a gable window in the attic. The windows are 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows with hoodmoulds. A timber casement is located in the attic gable, topped by a timber lintel. The ground floor doorway, to the left of the window, has a 20th-century glazed door. A 20th-century roof-light is also present. A ridge chimney is located at the upper end. The lower house also has a south-facing front with a single window on each level, a 2-light window in the large attic gable, and a three-light window below. A ridge chimney is found at the lower end.
The west side of the back wing has altered window openings; a 20th-century raking dormer is included. The north elevation of the upper house features a single window on both the ground and upper floors, which are 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned windows with hoodmoulds. A doorway has been blocked and replaced with a small casement window under a timber lintel. A 20th-century raking dormer is in the roof of the eastern side of the back wing. The north gable end of the wing has a timber attic casement with a timber lintel. The building has group value.
