Description
The cross base and shaft, dating from the medieval period, are located about 6.5 meters north of the north transept in the churchyard of the Church of St. Lawrence in Didmarton. The cross base is a small square single stone set on a very dilapidated footing, which was breaking up at the time of the survey in March 1986. The base rises to a large square stone that transitions to an octagonal shape, featuring very weathered half-figure sculptures at each corner and remnants of quatrefoil panelling on the east side. The rectangular shaft, approximately 0.80 meters high, is set into the top of the base and has chamfered corners, with remains of leadwork that originally secured it in place.
