Description

The Old Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, likely built by the Bicknell family, with a date and initials of 1662 on a stone plaque at the south gable end (the initials are not legible). The building was extended in the late 18th century and mid-20th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble with dressed stone quoins and has a stone slate roof. The chimney stacks were restored in the 20th century, either in ashlar or with ashlar quoins.

The main body of the house is L-shaped, featuring successive extensions to the north gable end. The original section is two storeys high, with an attic and basement, while the later extensions rise to two and a half storeys. The entrance front faces west and includes a gablet on the early range and the 18th-century extension. The fenestration is irregular, featuring single-light casements with flat-chamfered surrounds and two-light stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods. There is a 20th-century lean-to porch with a panelled door and a gablet, flanked by single-light casements. A 20th-century plank door with a concrete lintel is located on the far left.

The garden front, facing east, has an asymmetrical gable that projects forward on the left side of the early range, with twin gablets on each of the extensions. The windows include two and three-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods. The early range has leaded panes, while the other casements feature horizontal glazing bars. A 20th-century plank door is situated on the far right. The building has gable-end and axial stacks, and a large pyramidal finial is present at the gable end facing the road. The interior is not accessible.
