Description

The Pool House is a detached house dating from the mid to late 17th century. It features an ashlar main body with a limestone rubble extension and a stone slate roof, complemented by ashlar and brick stacks. The main structure is rectangular and has a 17th-century extension at right angles to the rear, along with a kitchen extension at right angles to that.

The house has two storeys and an attic, with a three-windowed facade. The lower right side includes a 19th-century three-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood, while the far left features 20th-century glass doors with steel frames. The central entrance is a plank door with an early thumb latch, set within a flat-chamfered dressed stone surround and a late 19th to early 20th-century gabled stone-built porch with a timber gable. A continuous drip moulding runs from the glass doors to the three-light window, with stopped hoods at each end.

On the upper floor, there are two three-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements flanking a single-light double-chamfered surround. The left gable end has two three-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods, along with a similar two-light casement in the attic. The right gable end features a 20th-century stone-mullioned casement, with one three-light and one two-light casement. There are traces of a projecting bread oven on the gable end of the kitchen extension. The main body has a twin axial stack, restored in the 20th century, and a lateral brick stack. The gable ends are finished with stepped coping and roll-cross saddles. The interior has not been inspected.
