Description

Bridge House is a detached house dating from the late 17th century, with a large addition made in the early 20th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone, featuring ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. The original two-storey house has a single-storey and attic addition at a right angle to the south end, which is at a higher level.

The front of the house has two half gables, each with a two-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement window that has a hoodmould. Below these, there are three and two-light casements on the ground floor. The gable end of the cross wing has single-window fenestration, with a large four-light casement and a two-light casement above it. On the north side of the cross wing, there is a chimney gable that is set above a lower ridge-line. The wall to the high-level front terrace features a round-arched opening at low level.

At the north end, there is a lean-to addition with a partially enclosed porch and an off-centre upper floor single-light window with a hoodmould. The ashlar gable-mounted chimney has a plain cap. The large addition at the rear has a lean-to roof and is built against the bank in the rear angle. The overall composition of the building is picturesque. The interior has not been inspected.
