Description
This is a milestone located at the National Grid Reference SO 994 017, dating from around 1752 or between 1814 and 1818. It is made of limestone and features a cast-iron plate. The stone stands approximately 0.75 meters high and has a relief inscription indicating distances to Cirencester (2 miles), Hampton (8 miles), and Stroud (12 miles). This section of the road was turnpiked between 1814 and 1818 when the route was changed from its original path through Cirencester Park. The stone may have been installed during this period or could have been relocated from its original position on the road through the park, which was turnpiked in 1752.
