Description
Mill Cottages, formerly known as Old Mill, is a former corn mill that has been converted into two houses. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed from random rubble limestone with rubble chimneys and a stone slate roof. It is two stories high with an attic. The main mill block now serves as No 2, while a wing at the north end forms No 1.
The front of the building features mostly 20th-century mullioned casement windows, with some original casements that have likely been repositioned. There is a central 20th-century doorway leading to No 2, which has a flat porch hood and is flanked by four-light casements with hoodmoulds. A large relieving arch is located below the right casement. The upper floor has a row of five two-light casements. No 1, to the right, has similar casements, including a gabled roof dormer. There are two chimneys mounted on the ridge.
At the rear, there is a gable on the wing to the left and an outshut with a catslide roof to the right. The mullioned windows at the rear are generally consistent with those at the front. The interior has not been inspected but has been extensively altered during its conversion into houses. Mill Cottages stands at a significant position at the end of the village street.
