Description
BIBURY ABLINGTON SP 1007-1107 10/36 Nos 1 and 2 Mill Cottages (previously listed as Old Mill) 23.1.52 GV II Former corn mill, now 2 houses. Early-mid C18; mid C20 alterations. Random rubble limestone; rubble chimneys; stone slate roof. Two-storey with attic. Main mill block now forms No 2; wing at north end forming No 1. Front: fenestration mostly C20 mullioned casements, some original casements probably repositioned. Central C20 doorway to No 2 with flat porch hood flanked by 4-light casements with hoodmoulds; large relieving arch below right casement. Row of five 2-light upper floor casements. Similar casements to No 1 to right including gabled roof dormer. Two ridge-mounted chimneys. Rear: gable of wing to left; outshut with catslide to right. Mullioned fenestration generally as to front. Interior not inspected but extensively altered upon conversion to houses. Stands at important position at end of village street. (Photographs of building before alteration at NMR)
