Description
Gardner's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from 1631, as indicated by the datestone on the left gable end. There is a late 17th century extension at the center of the rear, and a 20th century extension at the rear left that is not of listable quality. The ground floor is constructed of ashlar limestone, while the first floor features close studded timber framing with rendered infill panels, braced at the corners. A continuous moulded limestone string course separates the limestone ground floor from the timber-framed first floor. The back wall of the first floor is partially made of red brick. The roof is covered with limestone slate and features a central group of four ashlar limestone chimney stacks, with a twin ashlar stack at the left gable end. The building is one room deep, two storeys high, and has an attic lit by two gabled dormers. There is a cellar beneath the right end of the house. The facade has three windows, including large 20th century metal casements with leaded lights, and a blocked, flat chamfered stone-mullioned cellar window on the lower right. The left gable end has stone mullioned windows with stopped hoods, and the right gable end has a single blocked, three-light, ovolo moulded wood mullioned window. Access to the house is via two steps leading up to a 19th century six-panel door with a roll-moulded surround, located off center to the left.
