Description
The Old Smithy is a former smithy that has been converted into a garage and store. It dates from the late 18th century to the 19th century. Attached to the left are 20th-century estate cottages that are not considered of listable quality. The building features square timber framing with brick infill on the right side, and brickwork on a low squared limestone plinth course on the left. The right gable end is made of squared limestone. The roof is covered with limestone slate. The building is two storeys high and has an irregular arrangement of windows.
On the ground floor, there is a late 18th-century or early 19th-century casement window with leaded lights. Additionally, there is a 19th-century two-light canted shop window that has horizontal glazing bars and a limestone slate roof above it. To the right of the casement window, there is a garage-type door on 19th-century runners. On the left, there is a single painted plank door with a segmental brick arch above it. In the center of the first floor, there is a painted plank pitching door. Inside, the furnace remains in situ.
