Description

The Church of St Andrew is an Anglican parish church built in 1797 by Thomas Johnson of Warwick for Lord Harroby. It is constructed of ashlar limestone and features a purple slate roof. The church has flat limestone coping at the gable ends and a heavily moulded stone eaves cornice. The structure includes a nave and chancel with a three-sided apse, designed in a Gothic style with a neo-Greek west bellcote. The nave has three windows, while the apse is lit by two windows, all of which are likely 19th century and feature pointed arches with 'Y' tracery. There are three steps leading up to the door in a pointed archway on the west gable end. A scratch sundial is located on the south wall, and there is an eroded early 19th century memorial to members of the Green family of Saintbury on the north wall. A decorative ironwork weather vane adorns the bellcote.

Inside, the church has a simple nave with a barrel-vaulted plastered ceiling and an 18th century wooden gallery with a fielded panelled front, supported by wooden Tuscan order columns that rest on the backs of pews. There is a single step up to the chancel through a pointed arch. An original 18th century font is located inside the door. The gallery retains its original pews, while the other pews are from the 19th century, except for some original along-the-wall seating in the southeast corner of the nave. An 18th century wooden pulpit with a tester is situated nearby. The floor of the nave features late 17th century tombstones, and there are three wall tablets commemorating members of the Harrowby family in the chancel. Additionally, there are fittings for gas lighting at the east end of the nave and on the west wall of the gallery.
