Description
Orchard House is a detached house that dates from the early to late 18th century, with an early 19th-century main block. It features a 20th-century painted brick extension on the right, which is not of listable quality, and a 19th-century extension at the back left. The main block is constructed of ashlar limestone and has a limestone slate roof with flat limestone coping at the gable ends. There are ashlar gable end stacks, with a moulded top course on the left stack. The back extension is made of brick and also has a limestone slate roof.
The house is two storeys high and has a three-windowed front with 12-pane sashes that include horns. At the rear, there are three and four-light stone mullioned flat chamfered windows with leaded lights. The main block features a classical style doorway, which is a 20th-century addition, complete with a triangular headed canopy that has a pendant from the apex. This canopy is supported by console brackets at the top of fluted pilasters. Above the six-panel door, which has the upper four panels fielded, there is a three-pane fanlight. Inside, panelled shutters remain, although there has been limited inspection of the interior.
