Description

The dovecote, byre, and barn date from the 18th century to early 19th century, with the barn being from the 19th century. The dovecote and byre feature a squared limestone ground floor that continues up on the byre. The dovecote is constructed of brick with three courses of stretchers and one header/stretcher above the ground floor. It has a limestone slate roof with continuous stepped limestone kneelers beneath a flat coping and roll saddles at the gable ends. A square wooden lantern sits at the center of the ridge, topped with ogee-shaped boards below the limestone slate roof. The byre, located to the left, has a red tile roof that is continuous with that of the 19th-century limestone rubble barn. The dovecote and byre extend forward from the left end of the barn, creating an 'L' shaped plan. The dovecote has a single room plan and stands three storeys high, featuring one unglazed wooden mullioned window below the eaves and a blocked doorway below. There is a stable door on the ground floor to the right, and the two-storey integral byre to the left has a door on the lower right and a pitching door above and to the left. The attached barn consists of five bays with a central threshing floor and has 20th-century roof timbers. The barn is included for its group value only.
