Description
This is a monument located in the churchyard of the Church of St Laurence, approximately 7 meters south of the nave. It is a bale tomb dedicated to Katharine Humphries, the wife of Richard Humphries, who died in 1746. The tomb is made of limestone and stands on a low plinth that was formerly surrounded by iron railings. It features a moulded plinth and an inscription within a cartouche-like surround on the north side, which is flanked by margin panels adorned with floral bosses and hanging bellflowers. There is a similar but unused inscription plaque on the opposite side. At either end of the tomb are cartouche-like inscription plaques; the one on the west end displays the initials 'K. H. 1746' with a winged angel's head above it. The corners of the tomb have quarter balusters, and it is topped with thick moulded capping that features gadrooned decoration above.
