Sundial base (possibly originally intended to be a fountain). Limestone. Mid 1860s. Highly ornate carved base shaped like an ice-cream cone with three swans seated at the base which is decorated with bullrushes; band of lilies and water lilies above; the upper part comprises a representation of a huge open water lily with a raised circular base at the centre on which stands a brass sundial, accurate to the minute, made by the Pilkington Company of Preston.
