Description

Numbers 45 and 46 are a pair of estate cottages built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks, two of which have been restored in the 20th century. The cottages have a rectangular plan and feature 20th-century flat-roofed extensions at the rear, which are not of special interest. Each cottage has a symmetrical facade and is one and a half storeys high, with four half dormers on the first floor that contain 2-light stone-mullioned casements. The ground floor has four 2-light stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods, and there are two 20th-century part-glazed doors with flat stone canopies supported on moulded brackets. A similar but blocked door is located in the left gable end. The cottages have gable-end and axial stacks, with flat coping at the gable ends and dormers. The interiors have not been inspected. There is a coursed squared and dressed limestone wall approximately 2 meters high that runs at right angles to the gable ends. This wall to the right connects No 46 to No 47. The property is owned by the National Trust.
