Description
A group of six monuments is located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Peter, approximately 5 to 9 metres south of the vestry. These monuments date from the 17th to 18th centuries and are made of limestone.
The group includes a single headstone, a row of three headstones, and a pair of headstones. The single headstone, from the early to mid-18th century, is situated on the east side of the group. It features a segmental head with an illegible cartouche-like inscription surrounded by scrollwork, and a winged cherub's head at the top, although the central panel is badly eroded.
The row of three headstones is located about 2.5 metres to the west. The leftmost headstone has an almost illegible inscription plaque that includes the date 1723. It is topped with an angel's head, with wings folded down around the inscription plaque, and is decorated with deeply carved fruit and flowers on either side. The middle headstone is dated 1731 and features a winged cherub's head at the top, with two five-petal flowers below and swags with ribbon ties running down the sides of the inscription. The rightmost headstone, likely from the late 17th to early 18th century, has a round head with a raised margin and a crudely executed incised inscription in capitals.
The pair of headstones, located about 2.5 metres further west, includes one with an illegible inscription. This headstone depicts an angel with a pronounced bust and wings folded down beside the inscription plaque, holding an open book below her chest, with foliate scrollwork on either side of her head. The early 18th-century headstone to the right has a badly eroded circular inscription plaque surrounded by foliate scrollwork and features a single winged cherub's head at the centre top.
