Description

Lower End Farm is a semi-detached farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 19th century. The main structure is built of limestone rubble, with some hung slate at the rear, while the 19th-century extension features coursed squared and dressed limestone. The main body has a concrete tile roof, and the single-storey 19th-century extension has a slate roof. The farmhouse has an 'L'-shaped plan, with successive 19th-century extensions at the rear facing the farmyard.

The main body of the farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic, and the garden front includes a gabled cross wing that projects forward to the left. Windows consist of two and three-light 20th-century wood casements with glazing bars, along with a 19th-century single light casement in the lower right. A 19th-century part-glazed door is located to the right of the projecting gable, above which is a two-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casement. To the right, there is a three or four-light hollow-moulded stone-mullioned casement with a transom and stopped hood, partly obscured by climbing plants.

A small outbuilding with a plank door is set back to the left of the projecting gable. The rear wall of the main body features a three-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with a transom and leaded panes, and above it is a two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement. The 19th-century extension to the right is one and a half storeys high, with a gabled half dormer that includes a three-light casement. Below this, there is a similar casement within a segmental-headed surround, and to the left of the flat-roofed porch, there is a two-light casement with glazing bars. A 20th-century part-glazed door leads to a single-storey extension at the gable end, and a three-light casement within a segmental-headed surround is located to the right. The main body features gable-end, axial, and lateral stacks.

Inside, the farmhouse includes tie beams with deep flat-chamfers and moulded stops, although the interior has not been fully inspected.
