Description

The Hall of Friendship is an outbuilding that has been converted into a village hall. It dates from the 16th century or early 17th century and has been altered and extended in the 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed and dressed limestone and features a stone tile roof with stone coped gable ends. It has a rectangular plan with a doorway located in the west end of the south side. Originally, it was a single-storey structure open to the roof, but a floor was inserted in the late 20th century.

The south front has four bays and includes three ashlar buttresses with weathered set-offs and pointed-headed ventilation slits. There is a wide doorway in the left bay with a roll-moulded 3-centred arch, and a large 20th-century 5-light mullion-transom window in the bay to the right of centre. The gable ends have two tiers of ventilation slits. Additionally, there is a later stone rear wing and a large single-storey extension added in the angle at the back.

Inside, the inserted floor supports the original 4-bay roof, which features raised cruck trusses with morticed collars and small yokes at the apexes, along with two tiers of through purlins and curved wind-braces.

Historically, this building was once an outbuilding of Latimers, which is believed to have been the home of Hugh Latimer, Bishop of Worcester and Protestant martyr.
