Description
Barrington Downs Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, possibly once two houses, dating from the 18th century, with late 19th and 20th-century extensions. The 18th-century section is built of limestone rubble with dressed stone quoins, while the 19th-century extensions are made of coursed squared and dressed limestone. The building features a stone slate roof with ashlar stacks.
The main body of the farmhouse has a rectangular plan and is two storeys high with an attic, which is lit by two 20th-century slate-hung 2-light roof dormers from the eaves. The other windows are 2 and 3-light stone-mullioned casements, all with horizontal glazing bars. A 20th-century glazed door with glazing bars is located within a flat-chamfered surround on the lower left, with a similar but blocked doorway to the right. There is a cellar beneath the right-hand end of the building.
The right-hand return of the 19th-century extension serves as the current entrance front, featuring a part-glazed 19th-century door within a round-headed surround, which has a keystone initialled 'R.H.H.' (Hurst), along with 4-pane sashes in the 19th-century part of the building.
