Description

Two cottages, built at the same time, form a row in Northleach. Construction dates to the 17th century. The cottages are built of roughly coursed limestone rubble with a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks, one of which has been repaired using brick. A brick stack is also present at the rear. Slate-roofed extensions at the rear are not considered to be of special architectural or historical interest. The main body of the cottages is 1 1/2 storeys high. The upper floor is lit by two-light wooden casements with gables above. Two fire-marks of the Protector Insurance Company are displayed above the first-floor windows, each depicting a firefighter standing in front of Old Westminster Bridge. A flat-roofed dormer window is located to the left of the gable of No. 2. The front door of No. 1 is six-panelled, with the two upper panels glazed. It is flanked by two three-light wooden casements. No. 2 has a 20th-century plank front door with a three-light wooden casement to the left, and a blocked door to the left of that. All windows and doors have timber lintels. The interiors of the cottages have not been inspected.
