Description

Hillary and an unidentified monument are located about 5 and 2 meters south of the tower in the churchyard of the Church of St Catherine. There are two tomb chests: the first is for Thomas Hillary, dated 1649, situated to the south, and the second, which is unidentified and likely from the early 18th century, is to the north. Both are made of limestone. The tomb for Hillary features a flat top with a large chamfered capping, with no visible plinth, and plain slab sides and ends. There is an incised inscription on the south side, and a large piece is missing from the northeast corner of the capping. The unidentified tomb also has a flat top, but includes a moulded plinth and capping, with relief corner pilasters and a central dividing strip on the sides, as well as raised moulded ovals in pairs on the sides and one on each end.
