Description

This property comprises two houses, Nos. 6 and 8, on Lechlade High Street, originally three separate dwellings, now combined into a single large shop on the ground floor. The core of No. 6 dates back to the 17th century and was initially two separate houses, while No. 8 is an early 18th-century corner building. The construction is of local rubble stone, with a stone slate roof and one stone stack and three brick stacks.

The right-hand side of No. 6 is two storeys with an attic, featuring two gables facing the street. It has two 2-light wood casement windows with timber lintels in the gables, a 3-light window on the first floor, and two large 20th-century bow shop windows with a central glazed door on the ground floor, all under timber lintels. A very large fireplace is located in the right-hand end of the ground floor, supported by a cambered timber bressumer. The left-hand side of No. 6 is two storeys, with a single 3-light wood casement window with a large timber lintel on the first floor, a 20th-century bow window to the left, and a glazed door to the right, serving as the main shop entrance on the ground floor.

No. 8, to the left, has quoins and a plinth, and is also two storeys and an attic. It has two 12-pane sash windows with thick glazing bars and moulded wood architraves, all with timber lintels. The ground floor has a 20th-century fixed 9-pane window to the left and a glazed door to the right. A small gabled dormer window has twin wood casements. There is access from No. 8 to No. 16 Thames Street (listed separately), which was formerly a pair of cottages.
