Description

Quenington House is a large detached house, originally recorded in 1862 as a farmhouse on the Hatherop Estate. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The front is made of ashlar stone with a chamfered plinth and alternating flush quoins, set on coursed rubble stone. The roof is made of stone slate, featuring stone stacks at both ends, one to the right and one external to the left, with an offset and moulded cornice.

The house has a single front range of two storeys and an attic, with a two-storey rear wing to the right and a single-storey rear section to the left. There is also an attached former farm building along the street frontage to the left. The front has four windows, which are 12-pane sashes set in shallow reveals with sloping flush sills. On the ground floor, there are three windows, and in bay two from the left, there is a stone doorcase with attached Doric columns on bases, a plain frieze with roundels over each column, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course. The double doors consist of four fielded panels, each with small oval lights cut into the top pair.

At each end of the house, there are two gabled dormers with stone slate-hung gables and paired 6-pane casements. Inside, panelling is visible on the window reveals on the ground floor. The outbuilding to the left features a 3-light wood mullion window at loft level, and the left-hand gable end has a flight of ten stone steps leading up to a half-glazed door, which is recessed with a timber lintel. The gable apex includes four rows of dove holes and stone perches.
