Description
Lower Dean Farm is a former row of three houses that has been converted into a detached farmhouse. It dates from the early to mid-17th century, with alterations made around 1870 and in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of random rubble limestone, with ashlar and rebuilt brick chimneys, and features a stone slate roof.
The farmhouse is two stories high with an attic and has two rear wings that have been infilled between. The front façade has a four-window arrangement, featuring three-light recessed cavetto mullioned casements with hoodmoulds on the ground floor, alternating with three Tudor arched doorways that have 20th-century glazed doors. The central doorway is from the 17th century, while the others are 19th-century additions. The upper floor has timber casements with timber lintels. There are two gabled roof dormers and three chimneys mounted on the ridge, two of which have moulded caps. The lower part to the right appears to be from the 19th century and has scattered timber casement windows.
At the rear, there are two single-storey wings with attics and some dormers mounted on the eaves. The area between the wings has been infilled in the 20th century. Inside, there is a large stone Tudor arched fireplace, and the beams feature simple stepped chamfer stops. Contemporary stables are located to the southwest of the farmhouse.
