Description

Johnman’s Barn is an early 19th-century barn and shelter sheds situated in an isolated position. It is constructed of coursed and random rubble limestone with corrugated roofs. The barn itself is five bays long, with outshuts extending along the east side, forming an L-plan. Attached shelter sheds run east. A continuous catslide roof extends over a low barn doorway on the east side of the outshuts; the outshut to the right features a central circular pier. A five-bay south-facing shelter shed has square rubble piers. A simple lean-to porch is located on the west side, with a doorway set within the thickness of the main wall. Numerous triangular vents are a distinctive feature, particularly in the main gable ends. Inside, the barn has mixed tie-beam and scissor-braced trusses.
