Description

A large barn dating from the early 19th century is located at Williamstrip Farm. Constructed of random rubble limestone with a stone slate roof, the barn is nine bays wide and features two porches on the south side and an outshut. Two further porches are on the north side. Each gabled south porch has an upper storey with an opening above the barn doorway, incorporating a timber lintel and plank door. A square columbarium lantern with a pyramidal roof is situated on the west porch. The lean-to north porches have doors set into the thickness of the main barn walls. Numerous square vents are present. All gables are finished with copings that have stepped bedding. Inside, the barn has a nine-bay collar and tie beam roof, a central dividing wall, and stone flag floors. This substantial barn exemplifies the local barn-building techniques extended into the 19th century.
