Description
Nos. 8 and 9 are two semi-detached estate houses built around 1870 for Harman Grisewood, with a 20th-century extension. They are constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone and sandstone, featuring ashlar quoins and a stone slate roof. The houses have an L-shaped plan, with a projecting porch on the left and a gable-end stack on the right. The facade includes a gable-end that projects forward on the left and a gabled half-dormer on the right. The windows are 2 and 3-light metal casements with single horizontal glazing bars and stopped hoods. There is a 4-light canted bay window on the ground floor of the gable end. To the right of the gable end, there is a 19th-century plank door with decorated hinges set within an ogee arched surround. The projecting porch has a round-arched head, and there is a plain stone shield near the apex of the front gable. The gable-end features flat coping with moulded kneelers, triple stacks on the right gable end, and an axial stack from the left-hand gable. The interiors have not been inspected. These houses are a mirror image of the neighboring houses, Nos. 10 and 11.
