Description

South Lodge is a detached bungalow built around 1890 for Charles Baring Young. It is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof and features ashlar stacks. The building has a rectangular plan and is single-storey. The facade includes a canted bay window on the right with stone capping, which continues to the left to form a canopy over the front door. On the left, there is a 2-light metal casement window with patterned glazing and a moulded hood, along with a ventilation slit above. The central front door is part-glazed and dates from the 20th century. The flat gable-end coping features kneelers, and there are two square stacks with stepped corners, moulded capping, and dentil decoration. The lodge is included for its group value within the Daylesford Estate.
