Description

The barn and stableblocks at Manor Farm date from the late 16th to early 17th century, with some 18th and 20th-century alterations. They are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, featuring stone slate roofs and a red tile roof. The late 16th to early 17th-century stableblock is at the center of the range, with a barn attached at the north gable end and stables, largely rebuilt in the 20th century, at the south gable end. There is a lean-to on the east side of the stableblock that is not of special interest.

The stableblock has a symmetrical, one-and-a-half-storey, three-bay facade with a flat-chamfered plinth and a central double plank door set within a flat-chamfered basket-headed surround. There is a similar doorway opposite, and tall rectangular windows with iron bars are located on either side of the door. The gable ends feature flat coping with roll-cross saddles.

The barn, which formerly had a hayloft, has a projecting porch on the east side with a sign reading 'McCormick Harvesting Machines' above the double door. There are also double doors opposite and ventilation slits. The stables at the southern end of the range have access to the hayloft via steps up the gable end, with stable-type doors in the east wall.

Inside the late 16th to early 17th-century stableblock, there are three bays that possibly retain original collar and tie beam trusses. A cut-out crown on the blocking of a pitching window remains from the celebration of one of Queen Victoria's Jubilees. The barn features four bays with what are likely original trusses with collar and tie beams.
