Description
Southcote House is a detached villa set back from the road, built in the early 19th century. The structure is made of rubble stone, which was previously rendered, and features raised alternating quoins and slightly raised dressed stone architraves. It has a low-pitched hipped slate roof with wooden eaves soffits and rendered lateral stacks. The main body of the house is square, with small single-storey restored wings on each side.
The front of the house has three windows, all of which are 12-pane sashes. On the ground floor, there are two 16-pane sashes with a lintel that extends over a dressed stone architrave, flanking a round-headed doorway. This doorway has a moulded architrave, a keystone, and small imposts. The entrance features a recessed six-panel door, with the upper four panels fielded and the lower two flush, topped by a decorative radial fanlight. Access to the door is via two stone steps. The walls of the side wings slope down on both sides, and each wing has a 20th-century nine-pane casement with a hopper light. The right-hand wing extends further and includes a plank door leading to the garden.
