Description
This ice house or grotto, located about 12 meters to the west of Upton House, dates from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone with vermiculated rustication and features a Cotswold stone-slate roof. The building has a small rectangular plan, with the roof eaves at ground level covering a flight of stone steps. The entrance is designed in a classical style, complete with a shallow pediment and a cornice that extends on each side. It has a round arch framed by vermiculated quoins, smooth stone impost blocks, and a keystone. There are two curved stone steps leading down from the grass to the entrance, which is secured by an iron gateway. The interior has not been inspected.
