Description

The Butcher's Arms is an inn that later became a public house, with origins in the 17th century and later 19th and 20th-century modifications. The 17th-century section features square panelled timber framing with brick infill and has a gable end facing the road, partly constructed of limestone. To the left, there is a 19th-century extension made of brick with dentiled eaves, both sections covered by tiled roofs. The 17th-century part includes ashlar end stacks, one topped with brick, while the 19th-century extension has a brick end stack. There is also a single-storey extension from the 19th or 20th century with a corrugated roof attached to the gable end of the 17th-century block, along with a flat-roofed extension at the rear of the 19th-century block that is not of listable quality. The 17th-century block has a gable end facing the road, and the 19th-century block runs parallel to the road, replacing part of the gable end of the main 17th-century body. The building is two storeys high and has a two-windowed facade featuring 19th-century, two-light casements with segmental brick heads and horizontal glazing bars. The entrance consists of an unpainted, 20th-century plank door with a single light and decorated strap hinges. Inside, the 17th-century section has flagged floors and deep chamfered beams.
