Description

The King's Arms is an inn that dates from the mid-17th century, with a block at the rear left, and a late 17th to early 18th-century block that runs parallel to the road. The building was rebuilt and extended to the right in the mid-18th century, and there are 20th-century additions including a flat-roofed extension at the rear and a porch at the front left that are not of listing quality.

The mid-17th-century block at the rear left is constructed from limestone rubble and features a coursed squared and dressed gable end. The late 17th to early 18th-century block has an ashlar limestone facade with a projecting plinth course for part of its length. The entire structure is topped with an artificial stone slate roof, which has flat coped gables and a roll cross finial on the left. There are four ashlar limestone stacks with moulded tops and skirtings, including one at the center of the block that runs parallel to the road.

The mid-17th-century block is two storeys high with a garret and has a former stone entrance with a 4-centred arch at the rear right, which is almost obscured by the 20th-century extensions. On the left wall facing the car park, there are 20th-century, two-light stone mullioned casements. The facade of the late 17th to early 18th-century block is also two storeys with an attic, illuminated by four 20th-century dormers from the roof, which contain 20th-century casements. The facade features a four-window arrangement with three and four-light, flat-chamfered stone mullioned casements, most of which have horizontal glazing bars and nearly all have stopped hoods above. A 20th-century plank door has been inserted under part of a window hood, located off center to the right, and there is a blocked entrance towards the left.
