Description

This is a large barn with an adjoining stable and animal shelter located at the Manor House, dating from the mid to late 18th century. Some parts of the stables may be from an earlier building, as seen in Kip's engraving from the early 18th century. The structure is built from random coursed rubble stone and features alternating flush quoins on the barn, with a stone slate roof that is half-hipped at the rear wing.

On the north side of the barn, there is a central projecting hipped cart entry, which has a timber lintel and double timber doors, along with two tiers of two slit vents on each side. There is an opposed raking entry with double timber doors, and a lean-to on the right covered with double Roman tiles, which adjoins the rear wing on the left. The gable ends have square vents, and the lean-to has slit vents with an opening to the left that also features a timber lintel.

The main barn consists of seven bays supported by king post trusses with two trenched purlins, while the rear wing has three bays with collar and tie beam trusses. At the southern end, it connects to a single-storey animal shelter that has nine open bays and one blind bay at the south end, covered by a double Roman tile roof on the inward-facing slope, with a partition wall between bays three and four from the north.

Additionally, there is a small stable range in two sections adjoining the barn at the eastern end, which includes a small central ridge stack in the section closer to the barn and scattered openings on both sides, some of which are blocked to the north. The ground floor features some large chamfered beams.
