Description

SWELL LOWER SWELL SP 12 NE 3/157 Creamery 100 yards approx - NW of Howl Farmhouse

GV II

Creamery in dovecote manner. Dated "M(ark F(enwick) 1917" by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Coursed rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings; Cotswold stone roofs, cross-gabled with coped verges, corner finials, saddlestones and central louvered cupola set diagonally, also cross-gabled and with weather-cock. Square plan, traditional C17 Dovecote style. Doorway to east with scroll brackets and flat hood, elliptical arch and heavy door. North and south sides have 3-light mullion windows with drips. Blind rusticated oeils-de-boeuf in gables. Diagonal stone spouts at corners. Interior: marble slabs around the sides, Tudor arch fireplace with water-tap in it; arched-braced cross-truss roof structure.
