Description
The Conference Store at Charterhouse School is a former dairy building dating from around 1893, designed by E. Lutyens. It features timber framing on the north and west sides, with rendered brick infill set on a plinth of coursed Bargate rubblestone, accented with red-brick quoins. The east side is constructed of red brick in stretcher bond, while the south side is in Flemish bond. The building has a plain tile roof and is a single storey, illuminated by dormers, with a layout of 2 x 1 bays. The timber framing includes narrow panels and S-curved braces. There are board doors located on the north side to the left and in the centre of the south side, with a board hatch above in the gable. The roof is hipped, featuring tile-hung gablets, and includes tile-hung, gabled dormers with 2-light casement windows and bargeboards. The more visually appealing timber-framed elevations are those facing Northbrooke House, to which this building served as an ancillary structure.
