Description
The statue of Thomas Sutton is located in front of Founder's Court at Charterhouse School. It was created in 1911 by the sculptor W Goscombe John. The statue is made of ashlar and bronze and stands on a circular podium with four steps. The circular plinth features console brackets on roll-moulded plinths, which are set diagonally to support four bronze panels that display the name of the figure, coats of arms, and the date of erection. The statue is topped with a moulded cornice and depicts Thomas Sutton in period costume, holding a scroll that may represent the foundation charter. Thomas Sutton is known for founding the school in London in 1611.
