Description
The Scout Hut is a barn that has been converted into a Scout Hut, dating from the 18th century and altered in the mid to late 20th century. It features a timber frame clad in weatherboard with a plain tile roof and consists of four bays. There is a gabled midstray in the second bay, which has a brick and rubble plinth, a board door, and a six-pane window above. The roof is half-hipped, and there are two four-pane windows in the gable of the left return. A single-storey brick lean-to addition on the left return and another addition projecting on the left side of the barn are not of special interest. Inside, the timber frame includes curved braces to the tie-beams and raking struts. The barn is located on the site of a former manorial farm. In 1915, H Thackeray Turner of Westbrook established a trust to manage this property as a club intended to enhance the moral, social, or intellectual life of the parish.
