Description
The cemetery railings and gates, located along Nightingale Road and Deanery Road in Godalming, were constructed in 1857 by L Faulkner & Sons of Hersham. These cast iron railings enclose the cemetery on its south-east side, following the slope of the hill. The design includes a carriage entrance at each end, a pedestrian kissing-gate in the center of the Deanery Road section, and a pedestrian gate providing access to No 19 Nightingale Road, which serves as the lodge for the cemetery. The railings feature square-section bars topped with 3-lobed finials, linked by a top rail with spirals. The standards are T-sectioned, braced into the ground, and topped with swept pyramidal caps. The gate posts are square-sectioned and have strings below knobbed ogee caps. The double gates are positioned at the carriage entrances.
