Description

A terrace of six houses built around 1830. The houses are constructed with stucco over brick, with concealed roof spaces and party-wall brick stacks, some of which have cornices. The roofs are hidden behind a cornice. Iron window boxes are present.

The terrace is three storeys high, with twelve first-floor windows. There is a central breakforward of four windows. The stucco detailing includes Doric pilasters at the ends and within the breakforward. Ground-floor windows have panelled aprons and cornices supported on consoles. A crowning cornice runs along the top, although it is missing on the left side, and a low parapet sits above. The first floor has original 6/6 sash windows, the second floor has original 3/3 sash windows, and the ground floor has tripartite 6/6 windows between 2/2 and 1/1 horned sashes. The basement windows are 3/3 sashes.

There are paired entrances, with flights of steps to four-panel doors and overlights, set within solid porches with incised pillars. The interiors remain uninspected.

Window boxes are a feature – the first-floor window boxes on the left have embellished rods and a central scrolled panel, while those at number 7 are present on both the ground and first floors and have a scrolled motif.

This terrace exhibits a strong neo-Classical design. The addition of an attic storey above the cornice is the only feature that distinguishes it from the similar buildings at numbers 20 and 22 on the same road.
