Description
Chandos Lodge is a villa dating from around 1820 to 1850, accompanied by attached walls, railings, piers, and gates. The structure features ashlar over brick with a hipped slate roof and brick end stacks. The piers are connected by 20th-century gates. The layout includes a central hallway and is double depth.
The exterior stands two storeys tall with three first-floor windows and a central breakforward. It has 6/6 sash windows throughout, all set in plain reveals with sills. The main entrance is framed by a projecting distyle Ionic porch that includes a pulvinated frieze and cornice, leading to a double part-glazed door and a fanlight with radial glazing. The inner doors are six-panel. The wide eaves add to the building's character. At the rear, there are outer 6/6 sashes and a central round-arched staircase window also featuring radial glazing.
Inside, the lodge is reputed to retain original joinery, including tooled architraves with floral corner details and six-fielded-panel doors, although the interior has not been inspected.
The property also includes subsidiary features such as railings along the left side and front boundary walls, with boundary piers and two sets of front gatepiers located at the center and left, both square in plan with shaped capping. The area railings at the rear display an X-motif. Chandos Lodge occupies a prominent position.
