Description

Nashcott and Herriot House, formerly known as Nash Cottage and Herriot House, consists of two terraced houses that have been converted into flats on the left and offices on the right. Built between 1820 and 1850, the building features stucco over brick with a slate roof on the left and a concealed roof on the right, along with tall brick stacks at the ends and party wall.

The structure has a double depth plan with central hallways and is two storeys high with basements. It has eight first-floor windows arranged in a 4:4 pattern, with a breakforward section on the left. The stucco detailing includes a first-floor band, tooled architraves around the windows (with the left house featuring eared architraves), a crowning frieze on the left (missing on the right), a cornice, and a coped blocking course. Most windows are 6/6 sashes, except for a tripartite window on the ground floor of the left house, which has a 6/6 sash flanked by two 2/2 sashes, and on the right, there are 6-pane French windows with divided overlights and a fluted transom. The basement windows are 3/6 sashes.

The entrances are off-centre on the left and right, featuring 5- and 6-panel doors. The left door has raised and fielded upper panels with a flush lower panel, while the right door is part-glazed and has decorative radial glazing bars. Both doors have fluted friezes and fanlights.

Inside, the building retains original joinery and plasterwork. The left side features a dogleg staircase with stick balusters and iron panels decorated with ovals and a wreathed handrail, along with shutters on most windows. The right side has 6-panel doors with fluted architraves and fleurons on the upper cornices. The interior has not been fully inspected.
