Description
The Cotswold Public House is a pair of houses, now functioning as a house and inn, built around 1820 to 1834 with later alterations. The building features stucco over brick with a slate roof on No.17, while No.15 has a concealed roof. There are brick and stucco end stacks and wrought-iron balconies.
The exterior is three storeys high with six first-floor windows, three for each house. The house on the left has a full-height parallel range extending to the rear. Stucco detailing includes a crowning frieze on the right, a continuous cornice, and a blocking course with copings, which have been renewed on the left. The first floor has, from left to right, four tall 6/6 sash windows, a tall 8/8 sash window, and another tall 6/6 sash window. The second floor features three 3/3 sash windows, an 8/8 sash window, a 6/6 sash window, and another 8/8 sash window. The ground floor has 20th-century rectangular bay windows for the inn, while the rest feature 8/8 sash windows. All windows are set in plain reveals with sills.
The central entrances include a glazed door from the 1980s to the left and a 6-panel flush-and-fielded door with a fanlight to the right. The left return has a blind opening with a tooled architrave. Inside, No.17 is reputed to retain good features, particularly in the door-surrounds. The first floor has six balconies with embellished rods and central scroll panels, along with a lattice frieze. The building is noted on Merrett's 1834 Map.
