Description

Star Lodge is a villa located on Montpellier Drive in Cheltenham, built around 1820. The building features stucco over brick with a concealed roof and wrought-iron balconies. It has two storeys and three first-floor windows. The first floor includes tall 6/6 sash windows set in plain reveals, while the ground floor has a canted bay on the left with a 6/6 sash window between two 4/4 sash windows. The entrance on the right is recessed and consists of a four-panel door with side-lights and an elliptical fanlight adorned with decorative glazing. This entrance is framed by a three-column Roman Doric portico, which is a notable aspect of the design, as it wraps around the canted bay and is capped by a Roman Doric column on the left. The frieze and portico are topped with three urns. The left side of the building has four first-floor windows, including two 6/6 sashes and two blind openings, along with three 6/6 sashes on the ground floor. Inside, there is a narrow open-well staircase featuring stick balusters, a wreathed handrail, and carved tread ends. The doors are six-panel with fluted architraves, and there are circle motifs and fleurons in the upper corners. A rear room contains dividing doors. The first-floor balconies have individual designs with an interlaced 'Gothic' arcade and lead stars.
