Description
East or Groves Fishleigh Farmhouse is a derelict farmhouse dating from the 17th century. It has partly plastered rubble and cob walls, with some repairs made using concrete blocks. The roof is thatched, gabled at the right end and hipped on the left. There is a rendered rubble stack at the right gable end. The building has a 3-room plan with a cross or through passage, although the left-hand room is likely an outbuilding with its own external access. The heated room is located to the right of the passage.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and features an asymmetrical front with four windows. Many of the windows have fallen out and are mainly 19th and 20th century 2 and 3-light casements. However, to the left of centre on each floor, there is a 17th-century moulded wooden mullion window. A 19th-century plank door is located at the centre and another door to the left of centre leads to the outbuilding.
The interior is not fully accessible, but the right-hand room has been seen to contain chamfered cross beams with bar stops. There is an open fireplace with chamfered stone jambs and a wooden lintel featuring mason's mitre stops. Other early features, including roof timbers, may also be present.
